about ocean spray

The enjoyment of cranberries began as an American tradition. However, today the distinctive taste and natural goodness of the cranberry has world-wide appeal. Ocean Spray®, a Massachusetts-based farmers' co-operative, grows in excess of 70% of the world's cranberries (that's 36 cranberries for every man, woman and child on Earth!). It also produces a large volume of grapefruits sold worldwide.

Cranberries are a native North American fruit requiring unique growing conditions. Sandy soil, access to significant amounts of water during the growing season as well as a long cold winter, where the fruit lies dormant under snow for several months, are imperative to produce a good yield of quality berries. Consequently, cranberries have not been successfully grown commercially in Australia or New Zealand.

Ocean Spray® first introduced its distinctively different variety of cranberry and grapejuice drinks to Australia and New Zealand in 1995. We, at Ocean Spray®, now sell three product ranges in the two countries - cranberry and grapefruit-based juice drinks, cranberry sauces, and Craisins® sweetened dried cranberries. All of our products have been specifically designed to suit the Australian and New Zealand palate.

While we mightn't be able to grow cranberries locally, most of Ocean Spray's products are packed in Australia.

Today, we at Ocean Spray® continue to spread the word about this unique little berry, and to develop innovative additions to our ranges.
